Hey, I’m Sarah Tilghman,
co-founder and head vocal instructor here at Sing Text! When it comes to singing, it’s important to know who’s teaching you, so let me share a bit about myself. Ready? Let’s dive in! 😉

Hobbies: Singing (shocker!), vocal science (I nerd out about it), songwriting, music production, drinking coffee, baking—especially sourdough, hanging with my husband, and taking our dog (big pitbull lover!) on walks!

Now let’s get to why I’m so passionate about helping singers…

From a young age, I’ve had a deep love for singing. I started in a children’s choir at church, and throughout my childhood, I eagerly sought out every opportunity to sing. Nothing brought me more joy. My teenage years were especially formative, as I spent hours in front of my parents' desktop computer, endlessly watching YouTube videos of my favorite singers, mimicking them, and learning everything I could about vocal performance.

It wasn’t until I was 17, attending a performing arts charter school, that I had my first voice lesson. My family was always busy, and private lessons weren’t something I had access to, but once I finally had that first lesson, I was hooked. I dove in to learn everything I could about the voice and how to improve mine.

I’ve now been teaching voice for 7 years. I studied music with an emphasis in voice at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, where I spent half my day studying music theory, music history, vocal pedagogy, and more, while performing in multiple choirs. After high school, I attended Southeastern University and studied Church Music with an emphasis in voice, before signing with a record label and touring during my junior and senior years. I took my schooling online while gaining real-life experience in the studio and on tour.

Throughout my music career, I’ve had the privilege of working with incredible instructors and refining my own vocal technique. In addition to classical, opera, jazz, and musical theater training, contemporary music is my bread and butter. I’ve taught students in all these genres and believe in the power of building balance in the voice to approach any challenge with confidence.

I’ve worked with many singers who struggle to practice consistently or understand how to practice the right way. While I loved my instructors, I walked away from my own lessons and university education still lacking a lot of knowledge about the voice, how to take care of it, and how to develop a sustainable practice routine that helped me improve. As I began teaching my own students, I realized this was a huge struggle for them too. That’s why my husband (Jonathan) and I created Sing Text—to simplify vocal training and help singers develop habits that lead to real progress. I want to help students avoid the struggles I faced and achieve lasting vocal health and improvement.

Sing Text was born out of my desire to make vocal training accessible and easy to stick with. I’ve spent over 2,000 hours developing training programs focused on helping singers build daily habits that improve their voices with minimal time and effort. With our programs, training is simple—just open your text, click the link, and press play.

At Sing Text, we focus on developing balance in the voice so there are no weak points, giving singers the confidence to approach any singing task with ease. Our training programs are designed to make daily vocal practice easy, with a focus on vocal health, eliminating tension, and building vocal longevity. Singing is as much a physical activity as it is an emotional and mental one, and we work with students to help them understand the science of the voice while nurturing a positive mindset.

The most rewarding part of being a vocal instructor is seeing a singer experience a breakthrough—doing something they never thought they could. Those moments are priceless, and that’s what fuels my passion for teaching. As we had people test out Sing Text before we launched, the #1 piece of feedback we received (which we didn’t expect) was that Sing Text helped them gain confidence.

At Sing Text, we believe that real transformation happens in the 6 days between lessons. While lessons and instructors are valuable, it’s the daily, intentional practice that builds a confident voice. We're here to support you every step of the way, and I’m excited to see the progress you’ll make with Sing Text.
